Year of Establishment: 1993

The Youth Council for Development Alternatives (YCDA) is a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) founded in 1993. It was registered under various legal provisions necessary for operation in the country, including the Societies Registration Act, the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA), and relevant sections of the Income Tax Act. Since its inception, the organization has been dedicated to the development of marginalized communities, guided by a team of experienced and trained social workers. YCDA’s headquarters is located in Baunsuni village, Boudh district, with regional and state offices in Balangir and Bhubaneswar, respectively.

The organization’s primary focus is on implementing various demonstration projects for its target groups, aiming to bring about significant changes in their circumstances and to replicate best practices in other areas. YCDA collaborates with government agencies, Corporate bodies and international NGOs to achieve its desired outcomes.

YCDA is managed by a General Council, which meets as scheduled to conduct various business transactions in accordance with the organization’s constitution. The organization is governed by a set of policies, including HR Policy, Child Protection Policy, Financial Policy, and Gender Policy, all of which are developed through participatory processes and reviewed periodically.

MISSION

To enable children and Young People of marginalized communities in Orissa for a sustainable future with improved socio-economic and family situation through a joint action with their communities and service providers

OBJECTIVES

  1. To enable children to have access to quality primary education including life skills and livelihood skills
  2. To empower children to feel safe and protected from discrimination, maltreatment, neglect and any forms of abuse
  3. To strengthen families that will enable children and young people to grow in a safe, secure and economically stable community.

OUR STRATEGIES

Following strategies are adopted generally in all projects in the organization to achieve the results

Direct Action
Work with target groups like children, adolescents and individual Households in the community for ensuring direct services as required.
Strengthen community basedgroups
Strengthen capacity of various groups/committees like,children club, Adolescent groups, Self Help Groups (SHGs), Village Child Welfare Protection Committee (VCWPCs) etc. with an objective to develop their capacity and claim making power.
Lobby and policy influencing
Initiate action with other like-minded organisations and peoples group to translate policies into action, lobby for poor people’s policy and influence good governance practices in implementation.
